Bee pollen :
bee pollen is a ball or pellet of field-gathered flower pollen packed by worker honeybees, and used as the primary food source for the hive. It consists of simple sugars, protein, minerals and vitamins, fatty acids, and a small percentage of other components. Also called bee bread,[1] or ambrosia, it is stored in brood cells, mixed with saliva, and sealed with a drop of honey.[2] Bee pollen is harvested as food for humans, with various health claims, one of them being that the fermentation process makes it much more potent than simple flower pollen.[3]
Pollen balls are stored in the chambers of honeybee hives, and sometimes in wood and mud created by female ground-nesting bees, such as the leafcutting bee.[4] With the leafcutting bee, when the pollen ball is complete, a single female lays an egg on top of the pollen ball, and seals the brood cell.[5] It differs from field gathered pollen as honey bee secretions induce a fermentation process, where biochemical transformations break down the walls of flower pollen grains and render the nutrients more readily available.[3]
Forager bees that gather pollen do not eat it themselves, since they stop producing the proteolytic enzymes necessary to digest it when they transition to foraging. The foragers unload the pollen they gather directly into open cells located at the interface between the brood and stored honey, creating a typical band of what is called bee bread – the substance which is the main food source for honey bee larvae and workers.
Foraging bees bring pollen back to the hive, where they pass it off to other worker bees, who pack the pollen into cells with their heads. During collection and possibly packing, the pollen is mixed with nectar and bee salivary secretions.[6] Bee pollen is the primary source of protein for the hive.[7] This method of packing can be seen in the bee species.
Vanshlochan (Bamboo manna)
Treasures of Nature (Prakriti Ka Khazana) – Vanshlochan
Vanshlochan is a variety of bamboo trees. It is long and grows up to 11 meters in height. The width is not much. The bambusa arundinacea variety grows in Asian regions (India, Philippines, Central China etc.) where the temperature is above moderate and humidity is good. It has immense medicinal value in the Indian system of Ayurveda. Chinese system of medicines also use Vanshlochan variety of bamboo to create different types of curing and preventative medicines. A bamboo stick typically consists a stem that is harder outside and softer inside with some leaves. Each part of Vanshlochan has different medicinal values.
Several diseases where Vanshlochan is used are healing bones, skin, teeth and oral care, hair, nails and more. Vanshalochan provides strength, flexibility and resilience to collagen and elastin connective tissues. This medicinal plant is useful in preventing osteoporosis.
It is useful in strengthening skeleton system, preventing injuries to teeth and bones, and in quicker healing of bone fractures.
Besides the bones part, the plant extract also helps with diarrhea, flatulence, worm problems, and dyspepsia. It is used in preparing medicines for fever, ulcers, inflammation, and ulcers. It acts as a soothing agent in diseases like vomiting (nausea), bronchitis, asthma, bronchitis, and blood loss. It is especially useful in long term chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
The Benefits of Mucuna pruriens
Mucuna pruriens is the Latin name for a creeping vine that grows all over India—particularly in the tropics—and is also found in tropical regions of Africa and the Caribbean.1, 2 Even across different languages, many names for Mucuna pruriens refer to a velvet coating of hairs that cover its seedpods and that, if touched, can cause severe itching and irritation of the skin. Mucuna pruriens is well known by two Sanskrit names, Kapikacchu, which means “one starts itching like a monkey” and Atmagupta, which means “secret self,” and hints at the therapeutic value of the seed concealed within the allergenic seedpod.3, 1 In English, the common name for this plant is Cowhage. Banyan offers Mucuna pruriens as Kapikacchu. Mucuna pruriens has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over two thousand years. There are traditional uses for the root and the trichomes (the irritating hairs themselves), but it is the seed of Mucuna pruriens that is most often employed therapeutically.3 There are actually two varieties of seeds—one black and one white.1
Shilajit (Sanskrit: शिलाजतु, śilājatu)[1] is a thick, sticky tar-like substance with a colour ranging from white to dark brown (the latter is more common), found predominantly in Himalaya, Karakuram, Tibet mountains, Caucasus mountains, Altai Mountains, and mountains of Gilgit Baltistan .[2][3]
The first documented reference to Shilajit in the form of "Shilajatu" dates back to the sixth century BCE. Sushruta Samhita, an ancient Sanskrit medicine treatise states: "A gelatinous substance that is secreted from the [12]side of the mountains when they have become heated by the rays of the sun in the months of Jyaishta and Ashadha. This substance is what is known as Šilájatu and it cures all distempers of the body.[13] During medieval era, Shilajit had been considered one of the rasa (nutritive fluid) to endow a person with magical power when taken with particular metals, bhasmas, herbs, ghee or honey. A famous alchemical Siddhanjana also known as the "ointment of Mags" included camphor, shilajatu, some psychoactive herbs, as well as metal oxides and minerals. It allegedly enabled the practitioner to see "all the seven worlds of Hell (Patala)". [14] Shilajit is found predominantly in Himalaya, Tibet mountains, Altai and Caucasus mountains. The color range varies from a yellowish brown to pitch-black, depending on composition. For use in Ayurvedic medicine the black variant is considered the most potent. Shilajit has been described as 'mineral oil', 'stone oil', 'Mountain Blood' or 'rock sweat', as it seeps from cracks in mountains due mostly to the warmth of the sun. There are many local legends and stories about its origin, use and properties, often wildly exaggerated. It should not be confused with ozokerite, also a humic substance, similar in appearance, but apparently without medicinal qualities
Once cleaned of impurities and extracted, shilajit is a homogeneous brown-black paste-like substance, with a glossy surface, a peculiar smell and bitter taste. Dry shilajit density ranges from 1.1 to 1.8 g/cm3. It has a plastic-like behavior, at a temperature lower than 20°C (68°F) it will solidify and will soften when warmed. It easily dissolves in water without leaving any residue, and it will soften when worked between the fingers.
It is still unclear whether shilajit has a geological or biological origin as it has numerous traces of vitamins and amino acids. A shilajit-like substance from Antarctica was found to contain glycerol derivatives and was also believed to have medicinal properties.[15]
Based on currently available studies, the bioactivity of shilajit lacks substantial evidence. The immuno-modulatory activity does not stand the test of critical assessment and is considered as unproven.[16]
Shilajit has been the subject of scientific research in Russia and India since the early 1950s. In the former USSR, medical preparations based on mumiyo/shilajit are still being sold,[17] further developed and investigated.
